WHY TRAUMA-INFORMED AND TRAUMA-RESPONSIVE SCHOOLS? |
From 1995 to 1997, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and Kaiser Permanente conducted a landmark investigation that linked health and well-being to abuse during childhood by asking participants to reveal their exposure to Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACES). The study was one of the largest conducted, with over 17,000 participants completing surveys about their current health and answering questions about their household’s growing up.

The study found that more than two thirds of the participants in the study reported at least one ACE and more than one in five reported three or more ACEs, establishing that Adverse Childhood Experiences are indeed common. Adverse childhood experiences directly impact the functioning of the brain and development in children. Creating learning environments and experiences that are responsive to trauma fosters resiliency and success for every student.

TRAUMA 101CARE CLASSROOM's Trauma 101 training is a professional development and training program for educators who are interested in becoming trauma-informed. Participants will learn the basics of trauma, the prominent approaches models, and frameworks of trauma-informed care, and the core themes, principles, and elements of trauma-informed approaches to education.

PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENTCARE CLASSROOM provides virtual and on-site professional development, training, and consultation services to fit the needs of schools. We utilize the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s Healthy Schools’ Training of Trainers Model to build a pool of trainers who will be qualified to train others about trauma using our Trauma 101 professional development and training program.
